YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION SHORTAGE IN THE UNITED STATES 2008

As you may have discovered, since December 2007, Yellow Fever Vaccine has been in extremely short supply, not just in Los Angeles but nationwide because of manufacturing problems. The Healthy Traveler Clinic is one of remaining clinics in Southern California that presently has a limited supply of very affordable yellow fever vaccine and we will definitely get you a shot but it may not be quite as convenient as it was. We will explain why in a minute.

Yellow Fever Vaccine is required by some countries. Review your entry requirements from our LIST OF COUNTRIES REQUIRING YELLOW FEVER, while in some others it is recommended to keep you safe from this highly fatal disease which is spread by mosquito bites. In either case, it is a vital part of your travel preparation--essential if you want to visit countries of risk.

The vaccine has been available in single-dose vials and 5-dose vials, each of which must be mixed fresh and given within one hour of being mixed. Single dose vials are no longer available and it may be a few months until they are again. You can get your shot from us in a couple of ways. If you can, get a small group together to share the cost of a 5-dose vial. If you have 5 this is the least costly way. If there are only 1 or 2 people this is quite expensive but we can do it for you. We are also putting together our own groups so let us know and we can sign you up.

Start early! You must do your immunization at least 10 days before entering a Yellow Fever country but the vaccine lasts 10 years so it pays to do it as far ahead of your trip as possible.
